The Tokyo native has established a B Corp-certified brand known for its knitwear innovations and designs rooted in quality, longevity and practicality.

Yusuke Takahashi

Yusuke Takahashi is the founder and creative director of CFCL. An acronym for Clothing for Contemporary Life, the brand is known for its structured, sustainable designs, often incorporating natural fibres and durable contemporary textiles that reduce waste. Known for its use of recycled and biodegradable materials, CFCL was the first apparel brand in Japan to become B Corp-certified in 2022. Takahashi’s philosophy is rooted in temporality and futurism, underpinning his commitment to quality, longevity, practicality and minimalism. The Tokyo-born designer is a winner of the Mainichi Fashion Grand Prix, Shiseido Sponsorship Award and Fashion Prize of Tokyo.

Prior to founding CFCL in 2020, Takahashi joined the Miyake Design Studio in 2010 and was appointed the head designer of Issey Miyake Men in 2013, going on to lead the team for six years. Miyake’s influence as a pioneering textile engineer is evident in Takahashi’s designs at CFCL, through which Takahashi explores the relationship between fashion and technology, using three-dimensional computer-developed knitwear techniques to produce garments with complex silhouettes. He is a graduate of Bunka Fashion Graduate University.
