Sidney Toledano

Senior Advisor to the Chairman & Chief Executive, LVMH

The former chairman and CEO of LVMH Fashion Group was also behind the creative directorships of John Galliano, Raf Simons and Maria Grazia Chiuri at of one of the world’s most coveted brands.

Sidney Toledano

Toledano graduated from the Ecole Centrale de Paris, beginning his career in business as a marketing consultant at Niesen International. Before joining Christian Dior, Toledano held stints at the French brands Kickers and Lancel, appointed to Managing Director of the latter by 1984. His transformative tenure at Dior began when Bernard Arnault recruited him in 1993 to develop leather goods at Dior Couture.

In his role as chairman and chief executive of Christian Dior as of 1998, Sidney Toledano presided over a period of exponential expansion for the house; over 200 international locations have been opened during his time. His tenure has also seen a number of turning points for the house, including the departure of John Galliano in 2011, the three-year creative directorship of Raf Simons , and the appointment of the house's first female creative director, Maria Grazia Chiuri . In November 2017, amid a wider executive reshuffle at LVMH, Toledano stepped down from the role and became chairman of the LVMH Fashion Group.

While at Christian Dior's helm, Toledano relaunched Dior Monsieur as Dior Homme, appointing creative director Hedi Slimane in 2001. Toledano has also developed Dior’s Haute Joaillerie and Fine Jewellery divisions, notably appointing Victoire de Castellane as creative director of Dior Fine Jewellery in 1998, and opening dedicated jewellery stores in New York and Paris in 1998 and 1999 respectively.

Toledano joined Christian Dior in 1994 as director of leather goods. Under his direction Christian Dior released the Lady Dior handbag in 1995, a global success for Christian Dior and Toledano, who was promoted to managing director of international development in 1996, prior to his appointment as president and chief executive of Christian Dior Couture in 1998. In February 2018, Toledano took the helm of LVMH Fashion Group, overseeing the group’s portfolio that includes Marc Jacobs , Nicholas Kirkwood and Celine, among others.

In January 2024, LVMH announced Toledano will be succeeded by Michael Burke who will become the chairman and CEO of LVMH’s Fashion Group. During Toledano’s tenure, the unit’s sales have grown significantly, largely powered by the success of Celine and Loewe. In February 2024, Toledano was appointed as the senior advisor to the chairman and chief executive of LVMH.

Toledano is chairman of the board of the Institut Français de la Mode. He is president of the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture and member of the Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode Executive Committee and board member.

In 2005, Mr Toledano was named Knight of the French Legion of Honour and Officer of the French National Order of Merit in 2011. He was named an Officer of the Wissam Al-Arch by His Majesty King Mohammed VI of Morocco in 2007.
