Sara Moonves
Editor-in-Chief, W Magazine
The editor-in-chief of W Magazine and president of W Media has reasserted the magazine’s relevance across digital and print platforms, collaborating with talents like Beyoncé, Chappell Roan and Cate Blanchett.

Sara Moonves is the editor-in-chief of W Magazine. She is notable for redefining the magazine’s editorial voice with a modern, high-fashion sensibility while steering it through one of the most turbulent decades in publishing, balancing legacy media with viral digital relevance.
Born in Los Angeles in 1984, Moonves studied journalism at NYU’s Gallatin School, where she interned at Vogue in both the LA and New York offices. She began her career as an assistant to Sally Singer at American Vogue, a formative experience that sharpened her eye for narrative-driven fashion. After honing her editorial instincts at T: The New York Times Style Magazine, she joined W in 2017 as style director. Just two years later, she made history as the magazine’s first female and youngest-ever editor-in-chief of a major American fashion magazine.
Since taking the helm, Moonves has expanded W’s footprint across platforms, reinvigorating the brand with a refined, forward-looking perspective. Her landmark Beyoncé digital cover in 2024 generated more than 3.5 billion press impressions and prompted W to release an additional print issue — a rare move in a shrinking magazine landscape. Moonves continues to style high-profile shoots herself, collaborating with talents like Chappell Roan, Aletta and Cate Blanchett in 2025, showcasing her dual role as both creative director and fashion editor.
