Liu was trusted with the top job at the Chinese edition of Vogue, having spent 15 years turning GQ China into one of the country’s media success stories.

Rocco Liu, also known as Liu Chong, is the editorial director at Vogue China. Before being appointed to the role in 2024, the digitally savvy editor led GQ China as editorial director. During his tenure at the men’s fashion title, Liu was instrumental in making it both creatively and commercially successful. He is credited with the coup that was GQ Lab, a digital sub-brand that launched on super-app WeChat before expanding to social media platforms Xiaohongshu and Bilibili, drawing millions of followers. He also grew GQ China’s Men of the Year event into one of China’s most high-profile gatherings.
Liu started his career at Condé Nast China with the local edition of GQ in 2009, where he worked his way up the editorial ladder. In 2017, he was entrusted with leading the digital content creation for the magazine and the following year, he took on the role of digital director while also serving as community operator for Condé Nast Traveler China. In 2020, Liu was appointed as the editorial director of GQ China, overseeing both editorial and commercial content strategy. Liu holds a bachelor’s degree in English language and literature from Beijing Foreign Studies University and worked as an English teacher at a foreign language school before launching his career in fashion media.
