One of Nicolas Ghesquière’s favourite muses, the Japanese model-turned-actress has an international presence due to high-profile film roles.

Rila Fukushima is a Japanese model-turned-actress, known internationally for her roles in The Wolverine and Ghost in the Shell.
Fukushima is also one of Nicolas Ghesquière’s long-time muses, opening the Louis Vuitton Cruise show in Kyoto in 2017. Alongside Lea Seydoux, Jennifer Connelly, Michelle Williams and the designer himself, she appeared on the June 2017 issue of Vogue Japan.
Fukushima’s Instagram following exceeds 127,000 and includes some of the most influential members of the Japanese creative scene. Having appeared on multiple covers Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar, she was named one of Vogue Japan’s Women of the Year in 2013.
The Tokyo-born muse was scouted while applying for a position as a model agent, quickly becoming a recognisable face in Japan. Fukushima has featured in campaigns for Dolce & Gabbana, her first major job in 2004, as well as Kenzo and The Gap.
In 2013, she was cast for her first major Hollywood role in “The Wolverine,” which led to film and television roles in both the US and Japan, including an ongoing role in “Arrow” and the Japanese historical drama “Gunshi Kanbei.” She is one of a few leading actresses representing Japan on the global stage.
