Rachel Scott

Rachel Scott is creative director of Proenza Schouler the founder and creative director of Diotima, a New York–based fashion label. She is notable for championing artisan-led craftsmanship and incorporating her Jamaican heritage in a luxury fashion.

Born and raised in Kingston, Jamaica, Scott studied fine art, French and philosophy at Colgate University before deepening her design knowledge at Istituto Marangoni in Milan. Her early career included roles at Costume National and Elizabeth and James before joining Rachel Comey, where she became VP of design in 2018.

In 2021, Scott launched Diotima, a brand rooted in the centuries‑old crochet and macramé traditions practiced by Jamaican artisans. She began by partnering with local women in Kingston who had preserved these crafts across generations, treating them as co‑designers and weaving their techniques into her first collection of handcrafted garments. This launched Diotima’s mission: to create fashion that is socially engaged, non‑extractive and celebrates heritage.

In 2025, Scott was named the creative director of Proenza Schouler. Scott took the reins as Proenza Schouler’s creative director on Sept. 2, with her first collection, Autumn/Winter 2026, set to be shown in February 2026.

Scott’s impact was swiftly recognised. In 2023, she was runner‑up for the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund and a finalist for the LVMH Prize. The following year, she became the first Black woman to win CFDA American Womenswear Designer of the Year, and in November 2024 secured the inaugural CFDA Empowered Vision Award. She is also a finalist for the 2025 International Woolmark Prize.

Diotima’s sensual crochet dresses, mesh macramé and tailored tweeds have been worn by celebrities like Doja Cat, Gabrielle Union and Letitia Wright. The brand has been spotlighted on magazine covers and features in British Vogue, Time and Hero Magazine.
