Penny Martin

The respected fashion editor and academic is at the helm of one of the industry’s most intellectual and informed women’s magazines.

A respected editor and academic, Penny Martin is noted within the industry for her cerebral and considered point of view. Boasting a diverse career path traversing media, academia and art curation, Martin has worked alongside fashion luminary Nick Knight as well as contributing regularly to magazines such as numerous magazines such as Fantastic Man and The Happy Reader.
Appointed in 2010 as editor in chief of The Gentlewomen, the sister publication to Fantastic Man, Martin is credited for creating and helming a publication that offers an informed and intelligent view on fashion, combined with progressive journalism and features on influential modern women. The bi-annual tome has released 19 issues to date and has featured interviews with influential women including Elena Ferrante, Beyoncé and Floriane de Saint Pierre .
Graduating from Glasgow University with a degree in history of art, Martin studied at Manchester University where she completed a course in museum studies, and curated at the National Museum of Photography, Film & Television. Her career in media began when approached by photographer Nick Knight in 2001 to work on his fashion broadcasting site SHOWstudio.com, where she stayed as editor-in-chief for seven years. Martin also worked at the University of Arts in London as chair of the Fashion Imagery department at London College of Fashion from 2008 to 2011.
