Paola Russo

Co-Founder, Just One Eye

The former fashion director of Maxfield now runs one of the most influential fashion and art boutiques in LA.

Paola Russo

Having made her name as fashion director of Los Angeles’ famed concept store Maxfield, Paolo Russo has set up her own store in the city, establishing a reputation in West Coast fashion circles and beyond for her shrewd curation of high fashion, as well as artwork, jewellery and home décor. A boutique-cum-showroom-cum-art gallery, Just One Eye began life online but now has a brick and mortar space in Hollywood.

Located outside of the city’s traditional retail destination of Rodeo Drive, Russo’s boutique is housed in a grand art-deco building that was once home to the headquarters of Howard Hughes’ aviation empire. It is part of the growing fashion movement in the city, which is quickly becoming an industry destination — this year iconic Parisian boutique L’Eclarieur will also open its first stateside flagship in the city, while both Tom Ford and Louis Vuitton have staged fashion shows there.

Just One Eye is admired for Russo’s eclectic edit, which blends ultra-luxe fashion with emerging cult designers, like Parisian newcomer Aurélie Demel, alongside her careful curation of accessories and home furnishings. The boutique’s impressive selection of artwork includes pieces by Takashi Murakami and Marilyn Minter, as well as exclusive collaborations, including Nate Lowman’s $25,000 sneakers for Converse and Damien Hirst’s $55,000 crocodile leather backpack, in partnership with The Row.

With no overt signage, window displays or front door — customers enter through a secretive side entrance, where they are met by a smartly dressed attendant who leads them down a long corridor and into Russo’s 5,000-square-foot space. Very quickly, Just One Eye has become a go-to destination for well-informed fashion insiders.
