Nkosiyati Khumalo
Editor, Apple Music South Africa & Sub-Saharan Africa
As the first black editor of a major menswear magazine in South Africa, Khumalo pushed the boundaries of men's style across the African continent.

Nkosiyati (or Yati) Khumalo is an editor at Apple Music South Africa & Sub-Saharan Africa. As the former editor-in-chief of GQ South Africa, Khumalo oversaw all of the publication’s print brand extensions, including GQ Style. Appointed to the position on July 1, 2017, Khumalo was the first black editor in GQ’s global history, and the first black editor of a major fashion magazine in South Africa.
Born in Swaziland (now known as Eswatini), Khumalo spent 18 formative years in the US, based in New York state and eastern Pennsylvania. After a year of studying television, radio production and marketing, he relocated to Cape Town, South Africa. The move allowed him to explore managerial and creative opportunities, including editorial content creation, copy editing, reporting, content marketing and digital copywriting. Prior to his appointment as editor-in-chief, Khumalo had already spent five years at GQ as deputy editor and at GQ Style as an editor.
Khumalo successfully pushed menswear across the continent through various content and coverage initiatives. South Africa's fashion media landscape remains the most sophisticated on the continent, and the men's market in Africa is of particular interest and growing fast.
In November 2020, Khumalo stepped down from the helm at GQ South Africa. He began his role as an editor at Apple Music South Africa & Sub-Saharan Africa in December 2020.
