Interview Magazine’s editor-in-chief has long provoked fashion conversation through his celebrity styling and creative direction.

Mel Ottenberg is a fashion stylist and the editor-in-chief of Interview Magazine. Known for his ability to provoke conversation through Interview — with covers like September 2022’s Kim Kardashian “American Dream” themed look, complete with denim, bleached eyebrows and a jockstrap — the creative has styled a number of celebrities, including Rihanna from 2011 to 2018.
Having grown up in Washington, D.C., and now living in New York, Ottenberg has worked as a stylist for almost two decades — and as Rihanna’s stylist. In 2013, he became fashion director of 032c, moving to Interview Magazine as creative director in 2018 where he was named editor-in-chief three years later. Ottenberg’s campaigns included those for Dior, Gucci, Nike, Tom Ford , Calvin Klein and Diesel. He has styled stars for the covers of GQ, T and Vanity Fair, and has collaborated with photographers Inez and Vinoodh, Steven Klein and Collier Schorr , and celebrities Selena Gomez , Lana Del Rey, Justin Bieber and Chloe Sevigny.
In 2022, Ottenberg was named Daily Front Row’s editor-in-chief of the year.
