Marie-Amélie Sauvé

Marie-Amelie Sauvé is an acclaimed stylist, long-time collaborator of designer Nicolas Ghesquière, and creative and editorial director at Mastermind magazine, which she founded in early 2017.

The bi-annual print publication focuses on the intersection of fashion and culture. Various of Sauvé’s industry colleagues collaborated in the inaugural issue, including photographers Bruce Weber and Steven Meisel , and actress Isabelle Huppert.

Sauvé comes from a large family with a keen interest in fashion. Her mother, who studied fashion herself, was able to get Sauvé an internship at French Vogue, beginning what would become a decades-long link between the stylist and the publication.

After the internship ended, Sauvé returned to the publication as an assistant, collaborating with Guy Bourdin and Annie Leibovitz. She worked her way up through the magazine, before electing to go freelance. The stylist began consulting at Trussardi in 1997, but left to join Nicolas Ghesquière, who took up the creative directorship of Balenciaga that same year. Together, the two turned the house of Balenciaga into a highly directional label and a leader in the luxury industry.

They renewed their collaboration after Ghesquière took the helm of Louis Vuitton in 2013.

Sauvé continued her styling work for print publications, becoming a senior fashion editor at W Magazine in 2012, and fashion director of New York Times’s T Magazine in 2016. Mastermind magazine is Suavé’s first independent venture and she has announced plans to launch it into the digital sphere. Its retail locations currently include Pairs, Milan, London, Tokyo and Los Angeles.
