Mademoiselle Yulia

DJ & Musician

Fashion royalty in Tokyo, her unique sense of style has earned her the admiration of major designers including Jeremy Scott.

Mademoiselle Yulia

Mademoiselle Yulia is at the epicentre of Tokyo cool. Considered to be Tokyo fashion royalty, Mademoiselle Yulia’s unique sense of style has earned her the admiration of major designers, most notably Jeremy Scott , for whom she is a known muse. Yulia has inherited the crown from Harajuku street style predecessors and moved the needle to a more mature, edgy aesthetic centred around alternative Tokyo neighbourhoods like Koenji that represent the city’s confident sense of style.

An exceptionally talented polymath, she is best known for her eclectic wardrobe, front row presence and internationally renowned electro nights. A fashion columnist for Nylon Japan, she is frequently spotted at KTZ, Louis Vuitton and Givenchy shows and counts Virgil Abloh , Kanye West’s style advisor and streetwear aficionado, as a close friend.

In 2005, Mademoiselle Yulia created her own electro night in Tokyo called ‘Neon Spread’ in 2005, inspired by her experience of the London Electro scene. Now Mademoiselle Yulia draws upon her musical passions to inform her unique look. From her signature electric blue Cleopatra-style bob to her playful, Harajuku-inspired ensembles, her history as an electro musician and DJ is apparent.

Yulia is a collector of vintage Moschino and Theirry Mugler and has attended events in head to toe Dior. She has collaborated with major streetwear labels including Wesc for Fall 2010 and Joyrich, a Tokyo-born, LA-based label, for whom she created a playful sports-luxe playful collaboration for Spring/Summer 2015.

She is currently looking to branch into her own apparel line in line with her view that one should not follow but set the trends. With her own high-end jewellery line, Giza, Mademoiselle Yulia cites everything from Architecture to vintage toys as her key inspirations. Balancing her accessories with her music career – she is also a lead vocalist for an electro band and has performed with Japanese super group Plastics – comes naturally, she says. For her, fashion and music are inseparable.
