Edward Buchanan
Artistic Director & Cultural Advocate, KSAT SRL
The artistic director and cultural advocate is not only redefining knitwear, but also the industry’s approach to equity, storytelling and style.

Edward Buchanan is Milan fashion director for Perfect magazine and the founder of gender-fluid knitwear label Sansovino 6. Working in both design and editorial, Buchanan has built a career that blends minimalist sophistication with cultural advocacy, earning recognition for shaping modern knitwear and pushing for lasting diversity in Italian fashion.
After studying fashion design at Parsons in New York, Buchanan began his career in visual merchandising at Armani and Ralph Lauren before relocating to Milan. In 1996, he became Bottega Veneta’s first design director, where he introduced the house’s debut ready-to-wear collections and runway shows. He went on to lead knitwear design at major houses including Max Mara, Agnona, Off-White and Pucci, solidifying his reputation as a technical and creative authority.
Buchanan launched Sansovino 6 in 2009 as a response to the lack of gender inclusivity and representation in fashion. Known for its sculptural knits and progressive ethos, the label has shown at Pitti Uomo and is stocked internationally across Europe, the US and Japan. His 2022 collaboration with Fabiana Filippi on the Highline Collection further showcased his command of luxurious knitwear rooted in personal narrative. Now at Perfect magazine, Buchanan channels his expertise into editorial work that challenges convention, foregrounds emerging talent and reframes the visual language of luxury.
Buchanan collaborated closely with Virgil Abloh at Off-White, contributing knitwear design and helping foster dialogue among Black creatives across generations. As co-founder of WAMI (We Are Made in Italy), Buchanan mentors BIPOC creatives and holds Italian fashion accountable for meaningful inclusivity. Named a CCAD Fashion Icon in 2011, he continues to redefine not only knitwear but also the industry’s approach to equity, storytelling and style.
