Doan Viet Dai Tu is the co-founder and chairman of Openasia Group, a Hanoi-based firm with a diverse portfolio that spans sectors including luxury retail, yachting, hospitality and financial services. Since 2007, the group’s subsidiary Tam Son has helped global luxury brands such as Hermès, Bottega Veneta, Chopard, Chaumet and Rimowa enter and expand in the rapidly growing Vietnam market. Overseeing local retail networks, distribution, operations and marketing, the firm ran more than 70 mono-brand stores across the country by 2024, operating from offices in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Thu Dau Mot and Hue.
Doan Viet Dai Tu was trained in business administration, marketing and finance at the University of Paris-IX Dauphine in France. Setting up his first company in Australia in 1986, he eventually settled in Vietnam in 1994 to co-found Openasia with the regional branch of investment banking firm Lazard Frères. Five years later, he acquired Openasia with partners Christian de Ruty and Nguyen Thi Nhung. From a core business of investment banking and financial advisory services, Doan then expanded into numerous other sectors catering to high-net-worth individuals such as yacht sales and management, gourmet restaurants, homeware, wellness resorts and personal luxury goods.
