Chae Eunmi
Editor-in-Chief, Elle Korea
The fashion media veteran pushes editorial boundaries in South Korea by championing progressive social causes in digital-first content.

Chae Eunmi is the editor-in-chief at Elle Korea. Under her leadership, Elle Korea has expanded its offering to editions such as Elle Man, Super Elle, Super Elle Beauty and Elle Watches. Chae has also driven Elle Korea’s digital expansion through the likes of the Elle D Edition. By 2023, she had grown the main title’s Instagram following to 3.3 million and drawn more than a million subscribers to its Youtube channel, thanks in part to shrewd castings of Korean entertainers. Through projects like Elle Voice, an essay column featuring exclusively female writers, coverage of feminist perspectives of women’s careers and landmark features like an interview with Hong Seok-cheon, one of South Korea’s first openly gay celebrities and LGBTQ+ activists, Chae has helped move the needle on social issues.
Having kickstarted her journalism career in 2001, Chae joined Elle Korea in 2007 as the title’s features editor. She climbed the ranks to become features director and digital director before leaving the title to set up her art book publishing business, Ovois, subsequently rejoining Elle Korea as its editor-in-chief in 2019. Chae relaunched Elle Decor Korea, which she also leads, as a hardcover magazine published in 25 countries.
