Ayra Starr
Musician
The Grammy-nominated Nigerian artist blends Afrobeats soundscapes with a bold Y2K-inspired aesthetic, influencing music, fashion and youth culture.

Ayra Starr is a Grammy-nominated Nigerian artist whose genre-blending sound — rooted in Afrobeats with influences from Yoruba and Beninese music — has made her one of the most exciting global voices to emerge from West Africa. Singing in English, Pidgin and Yoruba, she crafts deeply melodic, culturally resonant songs that bridge continents and generations.
Her breakout single “Rush” catapulted her to international fame in 2022, making her the youngest African woman to surpass 100 million views on a single YouTube video—achieved in under five months. Since then, Starr has continued to rise, winning Best African Music Act and Best International Act at the 2025 MOBO Awards, the latter making her the first Nigerian artist to claim the title. In 2024, she earned her first Grammy nomination for Best African Music Performance, signaling her place among the genre’s most powerful new ambassadors.
Known for her Y2K-inspired aesthetic and ties to Nigeria’s alté subculture, Starr is not only a musical force but a fashion icon in the making. She has fronted campaigns for Maybelline New York (as a global brand ambassador), New Balance, Pepsi and L’Avyanna Skin. Her style — youthful, bold and distinctly Nigerian — has landed her on covers of Dazed, Wonderland, Hunger and Teen Vogue, as well as spotlight features in African titles like Marie Claire Nigeria. Her appearance at the 2025 Met Gala in Ozwald Boateng was a breakout moment that cemented her crossover appeal.
With over 6.4 million Instagram followers and 7.9 million on TikTok, Starr has also proven to be a digital native with global reach. Collaborations with artists like Kelly Rowland, Wizkid, Tiwa Savage, Tyla, Anitta, Asake and Coco Jones reflect her genre-fluid influence and growing global footprint.
