American Apparel Names Brubaker as Interim CEO

NEW YORK, United States — American Apparel Inc., the struggling clothing chain, named Scott Brubaker as its interim chief executive officer, replacing Chief Financial Officer John Luttrell, who had assumed the position temporarily after the ouster of company founder Dov Charney.

Brubaker, 43, is a managing director at Alvarez & Marsal and has previously handled interim jobs for specialty retailers, Los Angeles-based American Apparel said today in a statement. Hassan Natha, a 55-year-old former CFO at Fisher Communications Inc. and Jones Soda Co., will take over as finance chief for Luttrell, who is resigning from the company.

“We are confident that their experience and leadership will help the company achieve its goals,” Allan Mayer, co- chairman of the board, said in the statement.

The move marks the latest shake-up for a company that ousted Charney in June for alleged misconduct. The company also has lost about $290 million in the past 4 1/2 years, hurt by a malfunctioning distribution center and shifting consumer trends.

The shares fell 3.4 percent to 78 cents on Sept. 26, the most recent trading day. The stock has dropped 37 percent this year.
