Lauren McCarthy has been named editor-in-chief of Nylon. McCarthy, who previously served as the publication’s executive editor, will manage the editorial and experiential aspects of the brand’s business. Prior to joining Nylon parent Bustle Digital Group in 2019, McCarthy worked as an editor at W and Harper’s Bazaar.

She will report to Charlotte Owen, editor-in-chief of Bustle and Elite Daily and Bustle Digital Group’s SVP of editorial strategy. Alyssa Vingan, the publication’s previous editor-in-chief and the first to hold the role under Bustle’s ownership of the brand, is no longer with the company.

Nylon, which has historically been synonymous with indie culture in fashion, film, music and more, was founded in 1999 by Marvin and Jaclynn Jarrett, who ran the publication until 2014. It folded its print edition in 2017, and was acquired by Bustle Digital Group in 2019.
