The e-commerce giant that has driven sales for brands like Sulwahsoo and Calvin Klein in Southeast Asia this week unveiled a localised platform for the French market, in a move that will see it come up against global retail giants like Amazon and Alibaba, Kr Asia writes.

Sea Group-owned Shopee’s entrance into France is hot on the heels of its Polish launch in early September, followed by Spain earlier this month. Its European expansion is already proving fruitful; according to app analytics firm App Annie, its marketplace has overtaken global and local players to become the top shopping app in both countries.

Meanwhile, the company is also expanding aggressively in Latin America, where it operates in the likes of Brazil, Mexico, Chile and Colombia, and there are reports of an upcoming entrance into the fast-growing Indian market.
