India’s Reliance Retail announced on Monday it had completed the acquisition of Himalayan skincare brand Pahadi Local. Financial terms were not disclosed.
With the acquisition, the retailer continues its curation of homegrown brands, said Reliance Retail executive director Isha Ambani in a statement, who also praised the brand’s “consumer relevance.” The brand will be scaled through Reliance Retail’s omnichannel network and experiential retail with a focus on retaining its DNA, added Ambani.
Founded in 2018, Pahadi Local draws on traditional Himalayan wellness knowledge and ingredients to formulate results-driven skincare. It is best known for its mountain berry cleansing and hydrating balms, as well as its number one bestselling Gutti Ka Tel (himalayan apricot kernel oil), which has gained industry recognition. Its founding team, led by entrepreneur Jessica Jayne, will remain in place to shape the brand’s creative direction, per Reliance Retail.
The acquisition comes amidst an uptick in global demand for Indian beauty brands and wellness practices. Earlier this month, Ayurvedic beauty line Forest Essentials was fully acquired by The Estée Lauder Companies, the same week that Ayurvedic haircare brand Indē Wild entered Sephora US.

It sells a wide range of goods, from groceries to high-end fashion. In 2023, it launched omnichannel beauty retail platform Tira to further consolidate its presence in beauty and personal care, challenging established domestic players such as Nykaa.
