Job Summary:
The Technical Drafter is responsible for translating design concepts into comprehensive architectural drawing packages. Reporting to the Sr. Manager, Store Design, the technical drafter produces high-precision technical drawings for Garage and Dynamite stores. This role requires a mastery of AutoCAD and an ability to navigate building codes, fixture details, and construction requirements to ensure every project is build-ready and brand-compliant.

The Technical Drafter is responsible for translating design concepts into comprehensive architectural drawing packages. Reporting to the Sr. Manager, Store Design, the technical drafter produces high-precision technical drawings for Garage and Dynamite stores. This role requires a mastery of AutoCAD and an ability to navigate building codes, fixture details, and construction requirements to ensure every project is build-ready and brand-compliant.
Main Responsibilities
- Precision Drafting: Utilize AutoCAD to create and maintain standardized drawing templates and blocks to ensure consistency across all retail locations;
- Technical Detailing: Draft intricate millwork and fixture shop drawings, ensuring all custom elements are functional and manufacturable;
- Construction Documentation: Develop partial architectural drawings, including floor plans, reflected ceiling plans (RCP), elevations, and detailed sections. Redline consultants' construction drawings for brand consistency compliance. Produce detailed directives to support site condition issues;
- Code & Compliance: Conduct preliminary research on local building codes and ADA/accessibility requirements to ensure drawings meet legal and landlord standards;
- Redline Execution: Update existing project sets based on feedback from Senior Managers, construction team, landlords or general contractor during the construction phase;
- Site Survey Integration: Convert site survey data and "as-built" measurements into accurate base plans for the design team;
- File Management: Organize and maintain the digital library of prototypes, finishes, and standard construction details.
Qualifications
- Technical Mindset: An expert understanding of how retail spaces are built, from stud framing to finishing application;
- Accuracy-Driven: A meticulous eye for detail with a "zero-error" approach to dimensions and annotations;
- Time Management: Ability to manage high-volume drafting workloads and meet strict construction deadlines;
- Collaborative: Ability to take directions from designers and translate their vision into technical reality.
Position Profile
- Education: Diploma or Degree in Architectural Technology, Drafting, or a related technical field;
- Experience: 2-4 years of experience in architectural drafting (retail or commercial experience is an asset);
- Software Mastery: Expert-level proficiency in AutoCAD (2D) is mandatory;
- 3D & Visualization: Proficiency in SketchUp for translating 2D plans into 3D massing studies is an asset;
- Technical Literacy: Deep understanding of construction methodologies, material properties, and architectural symbols;
- Bilingualism: Proficiency in English and French to interpret technical specifications and communicate with a diverse range of vendors.
