Retail Store Development Manager_Japan

Role Overview

We are seeking a Retail Store Development Manager to lead store expansion initiatives for our high-end contemporary fashion brands in Japan. This role is responsible for developing and executing store development strategies across department stores, fashion buildings, and street locations, while balancing brand positioning and commercial performance.

Key Responsibilities (Scope of Work)

• Develop mid- to long-term store expansion strategies for the Japanese market
• Lead negotiations with department stores, shopping centers, and developers
• Manage store contracts, renewals, and lease condition improvements
• Oversee end-to-end store opening projects (design, construction, VMD, retail operations, merchandising)
• Control budgets, timelines, and ROI for store development projects
• Review underperforming stores and propose optimization or exit strategies
• Coordinate with internal stakeholders and global HQ teams

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in store development within fashion or retail industries
• Proven negotiation experience with landlords and commercial facilities
• Strong understanding of store profitability and ROI
• Solid project management skills across multiple store openings

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with premium or international fashion brands
• Knowledge of key Japanese retail locations (e.g., GSIX, Isetan, PARCO)
• Ability to communicate with global HQ in English
• Experience leading or mentoring team members
