Power Moves | Maison Margiela Appoints New CEO, Hermès Creative Director of the Women's Product Universe Steps Down

This week Gianfranco Gianangeli was named chief executive of Maison Margiela, while Hermès veteran Bali Barret announced her departure after 17 years at the company.

Maison Margiela appoints new CEO

Gianfranco Gianangeli has been named chief executive of Maison Margiela. Gianangeli, who has previously served as global retail director at Givenchy, associate international director at Prada and held several merchandising positions at Bottega Veneta, succeeds Riccardo Bellini who left to join the Richemont-owned Chloé. He will report to Ubaldo Minelli, chief executive of Maison Margiela owner OTB

Hermès creative director of the women's product universe steps down

In a surprise move Bali Barret, creative director of the women's product universe, announced her resignation after 17 years at the Parisian fashion house. Barret, who first joined Hermès in 2003 as artistic director of its silk department, is slated to leave in October. Her successor is yet to be announced. 

Tapestry CEO departs

Jide Zeitlin, who served on Tapestry's board for 14 years and was appointed chief executive in 2019, has resigned. The move follows a journalist's investigation into previous allegations of misconduct. In the interim period, Chief Financial Officer Joanne Crevoiserat will serve as chief executive until a successor is appointed. Todd Kahn, the chief administrative officer and company secretary, will temporarily assume Zeitlin's Coach responsibilities.

Rent the Runway hires new chief people officer, chief technology officer

Ellen Shultz has been appointed chief people officer at Rent the Runway, effective September 8. Shultz, who most recently served as the executive vice president of talent and inclusion for The New York Times, will play a crucial role in leading the company's people strategy. 

The clothing rental platform also named Larry Steinberg, who joined the company as consultant in May, chief technology officer. Steinberg, who previously served as the development manager at Microsoft and chief technology officer and senior vice president of technology at Agilysys, will oversee the company’s technology strategy and innovations. 

Nike announces leadership changes

The sportswear giant announced several senior leadership appointments this week. Nike veteran Amy Montagne has been named vice president and general manager of men’s, Whitney Malkiel has been promoted to vice president and general manager of women’s and McCallester Dowers, who has spent 24 years at the company, will serve as vice president and general manager of kids. All will report to Michael Spillane, Nike’s president of consumer creation. 
The company also reshuffled its leadership teams in the Middle East and Africa, Europe, and in the Asia Pacific and Latin America regions. Nike veteran Carl Grebert, who previously served as the vice president and general manager of the Asia Pacific and Latin America region, will take up the same role in the Middle East and Africa region. Sarah Mensah will succeed Grebert. 

Hudson’s Bay CFO departs 

Hudson’s Bay announced its Chief Financial Officer Ed Record is exiting the company. Record, who first joined the Saks Fifth Avenue owner as chief financial officer in 2017, will remain in his role until a successor is named to ensure a smooth transition. 

Tailored Brands CFO Exits

Jack Calandra, the executive vice president, chief financial officer and treasurer of Tailored Brands, is stepping down, effective July 31. The move follows after the Men's Wearhouse owner, hard hit by the pandemic, announced plans to slash around 20 percent of its workforce and close up to 500 physical stores.

White Stuff taps non-executive director from Missguided 

Gareth Jones, previously the chief executive of online at Missguided, has joined British clothing and lifestyle retailer White Stuff as a non-executive director. Jones, who was most recently a non-executive director at Moss Bros until March 2020, will help develop the brand’s multichannel offering. 

Dick's Sporting Goods adds to board of directors

Larry Fitzgerald Jr., a wide receiver for the American football team the Arizona Cardinals, has been appointed to Dick's Sporting Goods’ board of directors. Fitzgerald has been a member of  athletic and outdoor retailer’s Sports Matter Advisory Board of The Dick's Sporting Goods Foundation since 2018, where he encourages young children to engage in sports. 

Confindustria Moda names new president

Italy's Confindustria Moda, the national association of textile and fashion companies, has appointed Cirillo Marcolin president. Formerly the vice president, Marcolin will succeed Claudio Marenzi, effective immediately.
