LONDON, United Kingdom — Casey Legler is no stranger to disruption. The Olympian turned model and author, and now Vice President at design store Roman & Williams GUILD has been breaking boundaries all her life.

In the latest edition of #BoFLIVE, she discussed the extraordinary fallout from Covid-19 on the fashion industry with Editor-in-Chief Imran Amed.

“It’s been a long time now that people working in fashion have been saying to themselves, ‘this system that we have created, it’s just not fit for purpose anymore,’” Amed told Legler. “If there’s anything that comes out of this experience for our industry, it’s that opportunity for the industry to rewire and reinvent itself.”

Across the board, the fashion world is having to adapt to new ways of working. Designers are having to find ways to work virtually, using digital tools to figure out how to fit garments. The supply chain is suffering from a wave of closures and cancellations. Fashion shows have shifted online and sales appointments are happening via Zoom. Physical retail may never recover.

“The question people are grappling with now is ‘how is demand going to come back?’” Amed told Legler. “It’s not like there’s going to be a big stampede to retail stores because the customer mind set has completely shifted.”
