LONDON, United Kingdom — Central Saint Martins (CSM) has promoted Sarah Gresty to lead the school's prestigious BA fashion course, BoF can exclusively reveal. Gresty succeeds Willie Walters, who directed the course for 24 years, during which time it produced graduates including Hussein Chalayan, John Galliano, Stella McCartney, Ricardo Tisci and Phoebe Philo.
“Sarah will ensure that the course continues to provide the highest quality of fashion design education, producing innovative and responsible fashion designers who will predict and meet the opportunities and challenges of the future of the global fashion industry,” said Anne Smith, dean of academic programmes at CSM.
“Willie has established and sustained an amazingly successful course attracting remarkably talented and vibrant students from all over the world and has built a committed team of staff,” added Gresty. “I look forward to meeting the challenges that the future may bring while upholding the excellent traditions of the course.”
Gresty, who joined CSM as an associate lecturer in 1998, has served as pathway leader of fashion design with knitwear (one of five pathways available to students on the BA fashion course) at the college since 2006. During that time, she taught graduates including Molly Goddard, Phoebe English and Craig Lawrence.
