Agenda-setting intelligence, analysis and advice for the global fashion community.
Hello BoF Professionals, welcome to our latest members-only briefing: The Week Ahead. Think of it as your "cheat sheet" to what everyone will be talking about on Monday.
THE CHEAT SHEET
At Chanel, it's Virginie Viard's Show

- Chanel's resort show, its second collection since Karl Lagerfeld's death, on May 3 at the Grand Palais in Paris
- Chanel sales rose 11 percent to $9.6 billion in 2017, with profits of $2.7 billion
- Dior shows in Marrakech on April 29, Prada in New York on May 2
The Bottom Line: It's far too early to know whether Viard will end up serving as a placeholder while Chanel searches for a star to replace Lagerfeld, or will emerge as a world-class designer in her own right (or chart a middle course, remaining creative director without straying far from her predecessor's legacy).
Denim Spinoff Looks to Make Faded Jeans Brands Cool Again

- VF Corp. to spin off Lee and Wrangler jeans as Kontoor Brands in May
- Kontoor will be the number two US jeans brand by sales; number one brand Levi's went public in March, Gap plans to spin off number three Old Navy this year
- Kontoor expects sales to fall in the mid-single digits this year, but to show modest growth after that
The Bottom Line: Lee claims to be the first to sell jeans featuring a zipper. Kontoor will require similar innovation to thrive in an environment that hasn't been friendly to wholesale-dependent brands.
Adidas Lags Nike in the Resale Market. Does it Matter?

Beyonce is launching a collaboration with Adidas | Source: Instagram/@beyonce
- Adidas releases first-quarter results on May 3
- Adidas sales are booming in China but have moderated in the US and Europe
- Nike and Air Jordans dominate resale charts; Yeezy has slipped as Adidas increases production
The Bottom Line: Resale may not drive direct sales for sneaker brands, but it's increasingly where their customers are. Nike's utter dominance of this market should worry its rivals.
